DEKACON staff practise Emergency Response Evacuations

In line with our ISO requirement in Safety and Environment, this month DEKACON staff undertook essential Emergency Evacuation Training.

Whilst medical emergencies were simulated in our previous drill, staff this time practised an emergency fire evacuation drill, in anticipation of the summer months ahead. This process was undertaken on-site to simulate real-world scenarios and increase awareness of the significant risk bushfires pose within our working environment. At our depot locations, staff practised a fire drill using fire extinguishers.

All staff performed well, with key take aways from training being evaluated and implemented across projects and worksites.

With the summer months approaching, staff were also reminded to ensure they are adequately hydrated to prevent dehydration and associated symptoms of fatigue.

FACT

Fatigue can be directly linked to dehydration! When you’re not properly hydrated, your blood volume decreases, forcing your heart to work harder to pump blood, oxygen, and nutrients throughout your body. This strain on the cardiovascular system leads to a feeling of tiredness and can also impair cognitive function, such as concentration and decision-making. To combat this, it’s essential to maintain adequate hydration by drinking fluids regularly, especially before, during and after physical activity.
