Road Upgrade Work

Road Upgrade Works

DEKACON was engaged to undertake road maintenance and upgrade works to a 3.3km section of road within the Boorabee Gurrheel Flora Reserve, Woodenbong NSW.

Pre-works included;

  • Access upgrade works to a 1.1km section of Tenterfield Shire Council Road, which passed through a privately owned cattle property to the National Park entry.
  • Clearing of existing drainage lines to open water passage from the road alignment
  • Importation and placement of quarry materials to suitably reinforce the access for truck movements.

The project consisted of working to a comprehensive scope of works supplied by the NPWS Project Officer to identify how existing drainage pathways were performing. Works also included the removal of culverts which weren’t performing, (or were in locations that restricted water run-off), and the construction of new pits with surge grates and headwalls to bolster the remaining culverts to handle surface water runoff and drainage networks. DEKACON also constructed and reshaped rollovers and mitre drains to new design standards that we’re originally designed to meet the capacities of water runoff to slope gradients and measured catchment models. DEKACON managed importation of the quarry products supplied by BCQ Quarry to ensure materials, quantities and stockpiling met the supply contract between NPWS and BCQ Quarries. After road material placement and shaping, DEKACON applied a “POLYCHOR Omega” product to enhance road surface wearing in conjunction with FIVE ELEMENTS Pty Ltd.

Post works included:

  • Installation of guideposts to delineate culvert locations
  • Removal of sediment controls

Testimonials

"During my time as a Project Manager with NSW NPWS (Flood Recovery), DEKACON was engaged to complete a number of road upgrade packages and infrastructure projects across the region. Of note,16km of road repairs and upgrade to Cambridge Plateau Road; consisting of deep treatment works, slip stabilisation, drainage / mitre drain cleaning, and vegetation removal works. DEKACON was also engaged to perform Flood Recovery works including slip stabilisation works and bridge reconstruction at Mallanganee and Mt Clunie, along with Culverts and Road Upgrade work at Pine Rd in Bungawalbin National Park.

DEKACON always presented themselves as a professional and competent contractor who more than satisfied Dept. of Planning & Environment requirements relating to WH&S, Environmental and Quality Management. Their records of works and systems were excellent. Engaging DEKACON under various schemes was uncomplicated. Their response to Request for Tender was thorough and detailed with documentation demonstrating a strong understanding of the scope and the deliverables sought. Site control was always professional in manner and to a high standard, with signage and barrier fencing installed prior to major works. Safety plans and relevant JSAs and SWMS were provided in a timely fashion and kept up to date. Furthermore, engagement and work with multiple local Land Councils and relevant groups and Elders around culturally sensitive and significant sites was exceptional; and I am sure that relationship will continue by nature of the trust and understanding developed.

DEKACON's quality of work is more than adequate, with extra effort to mitigate environmental harm in riparian zones being noted. DEKACON are outcome focused and always looked to add value to the project through strong communication and exploration of options suitable to the project. Their delivery timeframe and scheduling were exceptional. The contractor’s ”as constructed drawings" and willingness to detail the record of works greatly assisted job progress monitoring.
